It's jarring to see the immediacy and lack of hesitation that the refugee crisis prompts in Xenoblade Chronicles X compared with the foot-dragging and resistance it causes in today's current events.ĭid you notice a parallel playing the game? Do you see a problem with allowing any alien species regardless of interaction with the human race to stay within the last human stronghold? Should the Nopon have been denied entry because they are the most obnoxious creatures to ever grace a videogame? Is that incredibly tired "Tatsu is not food" running gag preventing you from playing the game? Where did I leave my keys? One even parked its comparably-sized mothership above New Los Angeles, and in the hundred hours since that occurrence, I've only heard one townsperson express worrisome thoughts about those aliens' intent. Though I've yet to finish the campaign, at least 5 different alien species fleeing the Ganglion persecution have been granted refuge in the city without so much as a hesitation. In Xenoblade Chronicles X, a tyrannical band of Ganglion and other forces seek to wipe out most other species, and the last bastion of humanity, New Los Angeles, invariably (perhaps naively) allows any interested resident to seek asylum within its walls. Politicians grandstand about who will or who won't get into their country, and the whole thing is eerily similar to the game I'm playing right now, Xenoblade Chronicles X. Refugees seeking asylum continue to bottleneck many countries in Southern Europe and most nations seem paralyzed by inaction. The news is presently dominated by Syrian (and other) refugees being denied entry into the US, Greece, and other nations while fleeing regimes and organizations that wish them harm.
